MJ to keep Neverland | Aretha Losing Hers
By Cassandra | March 13, 2008
Michael Jackson will be keeping Neverland afterall. The ‘Bad’ singer was able to refinance his 2,500 acre spread before the March 19 auction date.
Jackson attorney L. Londell McMillan told The Associated Press on Thursday that the pop star has worked out a “confidential” agreement with Fortress Investment Group, LLC. The deal allows him to retain ownership of the famed property in Los Olivos, Calif. (source)
In other housing news, the ‘Queen of Soul’ Aretha Franklin is living a housing nightmare herself. TMZ is reporting that her Detroit mansion is up for foreclosure proceedings.
Aretha says a mistake by her lawyer over $445 in 2005 taxes and late fees caused her $700,000 mansion to slip into foreclosure. According to court documents, the big-boned singer owes $19,192 in back taxes.
She says she plans to pay up and reclaim the mansion by the March 31 deadline. A call to Aretha’s rep was not immediately returned.
