seriously wrong with this picture…

I missed the first six minutes of “America’s Best Dance Crew” and did not see Live in Color performed. What caught my eye is the pic you are now staring at. I was so shocked that I grabbed the remote, rewind back, paused, and snap this pic. Now I am sure that Live in Color had a great dance number, and I am hoping to watch the first 6 minutes so I can see what were their reasons.

As a member of Sigma Gamma Rho, I am appalled that a nonmember is wearing my letters. Did he find this shirt in the second hand store that he and his crew frequent. If so, shame on the sorhor who gave away her shirt. I am just speechless…

  1. Wow! I went to HU, I know that is nothing to be played with.

  2. AS A MEMBER OF SIGMA GAMMA RHO SORORITY INC. I FEEL THAT A PUBLIC LETTER OF APOLOGY IS DUE FROM MTV! I actually heard that they did not get these clothes from a thrift store and that they were able to pick their outfits from pre-selected clothes that MTV provided. There is nothing stopping someone from going into a School store and buying one. Also the young man wearing the shirt is apart of Kappa Kappa Psi (whose colors are the same as Sigma Gamma Rho) so why couldn’t he wear his own letters? And the young man went to a HBCU so HE SHOULD KNOW BETTER!

  3. GoldenRho4, thank you!! I did not know that MTV supplied the dance crew with their fits. I was going off what Live in Color said.

  4. Terry went to the university I attend now. He also marched in the same band and same section as I. As a member of Kappa Kappa Psi and a former HBCU student, I think he knows a thing or two about respect. MTV’s stylist picked out the clothes for them to wear. He wanted to wear a Kappa Kappa Psi shirt, because they have similar colors, but MTV was not having it. They wanted him in the SGRho shirt thinking that cutting the Rho, which was very disrespectful, would make matters better. With the fate of his crew on the line, he did it. This is a matter that is being handled with MTV by the members of Sigma Gamma Rho and by no means should Terry have any stones thrown at him.

  5. What snobbery!!! Is that what sororities are all about??? This kind of talk really disgusts me.

  6. Im with you ms. complexity. I am a part of a sorority and it always saddens me when I hear women being defensive about their sorority letters and colors, but dont get half as worked up about the things that matter, (elections, discriminiation, poverty, etc.). I see it all the time and it makes me ashamed to be in a sorority. Not to say that what happened wasn’t disrespectful, because it was, but lets not be so quick to throw stones. Correction is good, but we need to move on and focus on more important things.

  7. Anyone who is apart of the Divine 9 (NPHC) understands why the members of Sigma Gamma Rho would be offended to see a nonmember wear letters that they didn’t work hard for. If you didn’t pay our intake fee or plegde your heart out, you just don’t know. Wearing those letters are a privelege and aren’t given to just anyone. When you are on line for 7 weeks, 2days, and 57seconds come holla at me and I promise that you will feel the same as the proud Ladies of SGRHO. And last, but not least…MTV has no right to our letters…headquarters has papers on the letters. Simply put, it was infringement.
Obviously some of you don’t know about our annual programs: Operation Big Bookbag,Weesavers…i could go on.
