Open Letter to Britney Spears

Written by Cassandra on Jan 31st, 2008 | Filed under: Britney Spears

This morning I was bombarded with images of Britney Spears being rushed to the hospital–all before I had my first cup of coffee. As I was watching the motorcade, all I could think of is “Why, Brit Brit??” Here is my letter to Britney.

1/31/08

Dear Britney,

I know you don’t know me but I wanted to write you this letter. I know you have been going through a lot: marrying and divorcing young, having babies, substance abuse, dysfunctional family, and the sorts, but know that there are people who genuinely care about you and your well-being. The self-destructive pattern you are on is going to come to a head soon…you are going to leave your children motherless. Do you want Sean and Jayden to grow up knowing you through photos, documentaries, and other people’s memories?? Do you want to leave a lasting leagacy where people will only remember a tidbit of your impact on pop music but will recall all of your crazy actions?? Is that what you want?? If so, you are doing an excellent job.

You are 26 years old, get a grip. Your children need you. I wasn’t ready to be a mom. Sean Preston and my daughter were born two days apart. Being a mom is very scary. Yes you are going to screw up and make mistakes, but you pick yourself up, learn from it, and go on. If you can’t do it for yourself, at least, do it for your kids. They need you.

Seriously, it is time for you to let all the negative people go. In his popular Madea plays, Tyler Perry says this: “There are individuals that are meant to come into our lives for a season and then there are some that are meant to be there a lifetime. It is our duty to discern between the two. ” Britney, if there are people in your life that are causing you to be stressed out and unhappy, LET THEM GO! It is 2008, it is time to let the weak links go!!

Being single is fine. It is ok. This should be the time for you to get yourself together. Take some classes, go on a vacation, learn a new craft, do you.

I know you will never read this letter, but I had to say this to you.

Best,

Cassandra

  1. You could not have stated it any better! Brit needs to get a grip and move on with her life. She is acting out because she wants attention, but she is not getting good attention. She is getting bad attention and it is making her act worse.

I wasn’t ready to be a parent either, but Laila is the best thing that happened to me and I am not going to do anything that will jeopardize me being in her life!
