It is with great sadness that Jive Records announces the passing of Chad “Pimp C” Butler, a member of the celebrated rap duo UGK (Underground Kingz). Jive Records’ President and CEO Barry Weiss states: “We mourn the unexpected loss of Chad. He was truly a thoughtful and kind-hearted person. He will be remembered for his talent and profound influence as a pioneer in bringing southern rap to the forefront. He will be missed and our prayers remain with his family and Bun B. I’ve known Chad since he was 18, and we loved him dearly and he was a cherished member of the Jive family.”

Born in Port Arthur, Texas, Butler’s father was a trumpet player who played professionally with Solomon Burke. Outside of his father, the 33-year old rapper’s influences varied, ranging from Bobby Bland, Jimmy McGriff, the 1960’s Motown artists to Run DMC. Butler met his inseparable partner Bernard “Bun B” Freeman in high school where they formed UGK. In 1992, the duo signed to Jive Records and went on release a total of eight albums for the label. They earned their highest achievement earlier this year when their most recent album, UGK (Underground Kingz), debuted in the number one position on the album pop chart. According to the New York Times, UGK “helped inspire a generation of Southern hip-hop stars, from OutKast to Lil Wayne.”

Bun B is not available for comment at this time.

Michael Bivins has accepted a job as an announcer for TNT’s broadband channel, TNT OverTime on NBA.com.

The Boston native will largely cover the resurgence of his hometown Celtics in his “Bivins in Boston” segment, but he will also venture to other NBA cities and focus on other teams.

As I write this, my heart is heavy and I can’t breathe… Pimp C was found dead today in his LA hotel room. He was 33.

As of right now, the details of his death are sketchy. As always, no major media outlets are running this story. The only site I was able to find any news of his passing was allhiphop.com

RIP Pimp C, you will be forever missed, but forever in our hearts.

Here is the jist of the movie:

Nancy (Gabrielle Union) is a divorced mother of three who is so busy raising her children that she’s forgotten to take care of herself as well. With Christmas fast approaching, she decided to take her kids to the mall to meet Santa Claus, not knowing that her youngest daughter Emily (Khail Bryant) has sensed her mother’s sadness and is determinted to use her time with Santa to make her mom happy again. Just a few days prior, Emily heard her mom say that all she wanrted for Christmas was a compliment from a man, so that’s exactly what she tells Santa. Ironically, Santa, is struggling song writer Benjamin (Chestnut), who ends up giving Nancy just what she wants for Christmas, and much, much more.

MTV is reporting that Mychael Bell, the only Jena 6 teen who is still in jail, will remain behind bars for another 8 months after a plea deal was struck with prosecutors today.

According to the reported terms of the deal, Bell — the alleged instigator in
the beating of white classmate Justin Barker in December 2006 — pleaded guilty
to a charge of second-degree battery, which was down from an original charge of
attempted murder and conspiracy to commit same. He also agreed to an 18-month
sentence in a juvenile facility, AP reports.

Bell was reportedly granted credit for 10 months of his sentence for time already served. Without a plea agreement, Bell could have remained in juvenile detention until his 21st birthday.

“This was a way to put a close to an event at a time when everyone had reasons to want it settled,” said Louis Scott, one of Bell’s lawyers, according to AP.

As part of the deal, Bell must also provide financial restitution to the Barker family for court costs in the amount of $935, according to reports. Finally, he has agreed not to plead the Fifth Amendment in any upcoming court dates for his fellow defendants, and to testify truthfully should any of their cases go to trial. (READ
